Day 60 - God’s Will
Day 60: God’s Will
Today’s Big Idea: Defining our expectations
Key Verse: Acts 10:28-29
Passage of the day: Acts 10:24-33
Thoughts to consider: God’s will defines our expectations. Often, what is going to happen next is beyond our expectations and it is usually due to our small view of what can happen. When God is ready to do something new, it is His will that sets the pace for our expectations. Almost everything about Cornelius’ story is a red flag to the Jewish community. When Peter walks into the house of a gentile (red flag), Cornelius bows to Peter like he is a god (red flag) because that is what pagans did. Then Peter reminds him that this simple house visit goes agains Jewish law. But when Cornelius answers Peter’s question, “May I ask why you sent for me?” with such a miraculous story of how God spoke to him, Peter couldn’t deny it. When God shows up to do something new in your life, your expectations of God need to be set aside. How about your church? Are there expectations God may be asking you to set aside so He can do something new? Are there new ways unlike the ways God has worked in the past? If so, are you willing to follow God, even if it does not meet your expectation?
