Today’s Big Idea: You complete me

Key Verse: Hebrews 11:40

Passage of the day: Hebrews 11:17-40

Thoughts to consider: I be some days you only read the Key Verse. (Gotcha! No worries because I’ve done it too.) Today though, I want you to slow down a little. Stop, find your Bible, look up todays passage of the day and read it all. You’ll be glad you did. If I was told that I could only preach from  one passage of scripture for the rest of my preaching years, I would be hard pressed to find a better choice than this one. The roll call of great people of faith is inspirational, what they endured for their faith is staggering, and what we can learn from them is unfathomable. Yet after all the decision they made, all the courage they exemplified, and all the persecution they endured, maybe the most shocking stamen of the entire passage is our Key Verse, “For God had something better in mind for us,”. For US?! Really?! The simple answer is Yes! Our story is now a part of their story. Our Key Verse says their story is only made complete with us. “… they would not reach perfection without us.” Their story of faith is made complete in our story. “… none of them received all that God had promised”, yet you and I have. In Jesus we complete their story as we continue our own.
