Day 73 - A Living Stone

August 15th - Day 73 - A Living Stone

Today’s Big Idea: A Spiritual House

Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:5

Passage of the day: 1 Peter 2:4-10

Thoughts to consider: A Living Stone. There is nothing more inanimate or non-living than a stone, so a stone coming to life is truly a miracle. Peter uses this metaphor of living stones on purpose. In the Old Testament, God met his people in a single geological location - the temple. More specifically, the Holy of Holies between the cherubim above the ark of the covenant. This place was so holy that only the High Priest could go into it on one day a year. (Known as Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16)). So the temple was a holy place, but it was also an exclusive place. God was there, but He was separate from the people. After the day of Pentecost, all of that changed. Now God lives in us, not in a static temple built with stones that you may travel to once a year. This not only makes us a holy people, but people who will carry with us the presence of the Living God. What does it mean to you when you think of yourself as a living stone that God is using to build His spiritual house?
