Day 39 - Cultivating good soil.

Day 39: Cultivating good soil

Today’s Big Idea: Toss unwritten rules

Key Verse: Acts 6:2

Passage of the day: Acts 6:1-7

Thoughts to consider: In Weeks 3 and 4, we addressed some cultural issues within our hearts and church. We need to be aware that culture trumps what we say. In other words, actions speak louder than words. This tends to happen when people have been in church for a long time. They develop unwritten rules about how the church should look, feel, or function. It is those unwritten rules that get us off track and take us away from the mission. Getting back to Zero. Cultivating Good Soil for Good Seed! In our passage, today, studying and teaching God’s Word was central to the mission and culture of the early church. If the apostles decided to change their focus, all be it an important one, they would have lost the purpose and focus on the mission that Jesus gave them. This is why when getting back to zero, we must ask ourselves if we ‘Do’ church for any other reason than following Jesus? Do we have unwritten rules or unspoken expectations on our own spiritual walks? Have we contributed to the unwritten rules or unspoken expectations when attending church? How can we keep ourselves focused on what our Zero looks like as we discovered them on Day 29? Is it time to toss those things keeping you from getting to Zero? Or do you want to hold on to them for a while and never cultivate your good soil?
