Day 79 - Not a Fan, a Follower

Day 79: Not a Fan, a Follower

Today’s Big Idea: Jesus, the Mentor.

Key Verse: Like 9:62

Passage of the day: Luke 9:57-62

Thoughts to consider: Before we jump into Luke chapter 10 and see Jesus sending out the seventy-two disciples, it’s important to consider the context of the story. Jesus had been ministering for almost two years when He started His third Galilean tour. Before the tour started, there was a buzz from His previous tour and Jesus had attracted a lot of fans. In today’s passage, three different people came to Jesus claiming they wanted to follow Him. Each was met with a challenge that at least two were unable to meet.

Jesus doesn’t want fans, He wants disciples. Followers who won’t give up when things get hard. And know this, obeying Jesus can be hard at times. Ministry is hard at times. We must ask ourselves, “What kind of follower am I?” Will we stay with Jesus even if the cost became high? That is who Jesus wants, disciples who will stick with Him, no matter what.
